Staff Recommends: Presentation of Awards

Explanation:

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) celebrates the first full week in May as “Drinking Water Week”, a nationally proclaimed observance.  This year, Drinking Water Week is May 2-8, 2021.  A focal point of the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) Drinking Water Week celebration is the awards ceremony for the DPU’s annual “Drop Savers” Water Conservation Poster Contest.

The City of Hollywood has held this annual contest since 1994.  Thousands of water conservation posters are created by K-12th grade students annually for the contest.  Schools submit their student’s best posters to the DPU and a panel of staff judges select the top pieces from each grade category (K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-8 and 9-12) for the annual awards ceremony.  First place posters from each category are sent on to the state competition.  Hollywood has had numerous posters place in the state completion over the years including two first and one third place winner last year.  The DPU is very proud of all contest participants and winners.

Ali Parker, Public Utilities Outreach Coordinator, will be presenting the Virtual Awards at the May 5, 2021 Commission Meeting.
