Explanation:
The Fire Rescue & Beach Safety Department ("Department") has been approved by the Broward Behavioral Health Coalition ("BBHC"), pending execution of the grant agreement, to receive $327,782.20 in CORE Grant funding for the period from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. These funds were originally awarded to the City in Fiscal Year 2025 but were returned to BBHC because the Department was unable to fully expend them during the original grant period. BBHC has since reallocated the funds to enable the Department to continue providing Mobile Integrated Health ("MIH") services and substance use disorder initiatives throughout the community.
Grant funding will be used for eligible program expenses, including personnel, program operations, outreach activities, supplies, and other allowable expenditures that support behavioral health services, harm reduction strategies, and community-based interventions. Acceptance of this funding will enable the Department to continue expanding access to care, reduce unnecessary emergency responses, and improve health outcomes for individuals with substance use disorders and other behavioral health needs.
Fiscal Impact:
If approved, grant funding in the amount of $327,782.20 will be appropriated in the Fiscal Year 2026 Operating Budget within the Special Revenue Fund (Fund 111), as detailed in the attached Exhibit "1".
