Explanation:
National Arbor Day is celebrated every year in April to recognize all the wonderful contributions trees bring to our daily lives. Some of these contributions include the reduction of erosion, cutting heating and cooling costs, production of oxygen, and providing habitat for wildlife. In honor of Arbor Day 2023, the City of Hollywood will be hosting a tree-planting event at Hollywood Park Elementary on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 10:00 AM. Currently, the school has a sensory garden for its students, which was implemented by their physical education teacher Mrs. Cheri Cummings. With the addition of the three Live Oaks, Mrs. Cummings is planning to expand the physical and eco-friendly educational programs. The tree planting will teach the students gardening skills, growth cycles, help the students develop gross and fine motor skills, and educate them about the benefits and importance of trees.
The proclamation will be accepted by Physical Education teacher Cheri Cummings and school Principal Maria Menendez.
The proclamation will be presented on April 19, 2023, City Commission Meeting.
Fiscal Impact:
Approval of this Proclamation will not fiscally impact the City.
