Explanation:
The Department of Public Utilities needs to continue purchasing and receiving 50% sodium hydroxide, in full and partial truckloads, to support operations at the Water Treatment Plant and the Southern Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant. This chemical is essential for maintaining proper pH levels in drinking water and for controlling hydrogen sulfide odors during wastewater treatment. The City of Margate, serving as the lead agency for the Southeast Florida Governmental Purchasing Cooperative, originally awarded the regional contract to Brenntag Mid-South, Inc., under a one-year term with optional renewals. In line with that agreement, the City intends to proceed with the first one-year renewal under the same pricing and terms, covering July 18, 2026, through April 18, 2027, with an annual not-to-exceed amount of $990,000.00.
A 90-day extension was previously approved through City Manager Memo PU-26-78 to keep the current contract active through July 17, 2026.
Fiscal Impact:
A portion of the funding for this service is available in the FY 2026 Operating Budget in account numbers 442.400501.53600.552330.000000.000.000 and 442.400601.53600.552330.000000.000.000 and will be budgeted in subsequent fiscal years’ operating budgets subject to the approval and adoption by the City Commission.
