Explanation:
Established in 2010, the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact ("Compact") is a partnership between Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach Counties to work collaboratively to reduce regional greenhouse gas emissions, implement adaptation strategies, and build climate resilience across the Southeast Florida region.
The Compact emerged through the leadership of local county government officials in Southeast Florida, who came together to discuss the climate change threats facing over six million residents in the region. Recognizing the shared challenge, but also the significant opportunity to position Southeast Florida as an early leader, their call to action solidified a coordinated, regional response in the form of the Compact, which aims to ensure that the region continues to thrive in the face of shared climate change challenges.
The City has been an active participant in the Compact since its inception, participating in summits, meetings, working groups, and adopting Compact documents. In 2012, the City pledged to support the Compact's first Regional Climate Action Plan. The City has improved both its sustainability and resiliency through these collaborative efforts created within the Compact and by referencing the Compact's Regional Climate Action Plan ("RCAP"), which is a planning document to help guide local governments in their climate response efforts.
