Explanation:
The amendment to Section 31.04 of the Code entitled “Taking Office” is to amend the date the City Commission will take office after an election.
In order to facilitate persons elected to the City Commission, at Regular General elections, the newly elected officials will take office in a timely manner after the election results are received. The Code provides for the second regular meeting of the City Commission in November to be the time in which persons elected shall take office. Given the certification of election results process and to not conflict with national holidays, it has become necessary to modify the Code so that this second Regular City Commission meeting occur not later than 15 calendar days following receipt of the election results. Currently, the Code limits this to 10 calendar days.
Fiscal Impact:
Approval of this Resolution will not fiscally impact the City.
