Explanation:
The Florida Department of Transportation is required to periodically inspect roads and bridges. In 2021, the Johnson Street Bridge ("Bridge"), located between North 30th Road and North 31st Avenue, was inspected and determined to be functionally obsolete and to exhibit structural deficiencies. The bridge was originally built in 1965.
On February 21, 2023, the Department of Development Services, Engineering, Transportation and Mobility Division issued an Authorization to Proceed in the amount of $33,899.30 to the Corradino Group, Inc., ("Corradino") to conduct a feasibility study and develop a conceptual design to widen the bridge and address deficiencies identified in the inspection report. The feasibility study concluded that, due to the limited remaining service life of the existing structure, complete replacement of the bridge would be necessary to accommodate the proposed widening.
On October 18, 2023, the City authorized Corradino to complete the final design, permitting, and construction specifications for the replacement of the existing bridge with a widened structure (R-2023-324). As part of the bridge replacement project, existing City utilities that cross the South Florida Water Management District's C-10 Canal, adjacent to and attached to the bridge, will be impacted and must also be relocated.
