Explanation:

As part of the City’s commitment to the maintenance and enhancement of the City’s tree canopy, the City applied for the State of Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services 2021 Urban and Community Forestry Grant for the completion of a Citywide Tree Inventory.

The purpose of a tree inventory is to identify and collect data on every tree located on City-owned or managed property. These sites will include parks, common areas, rights-of-way, and facilities such as community centers. Funds will be used to engage an experienced consultant to develop a comprehensive data and mapping tool. Having a tree inventory is crucial for post-disaster recovery and mitigation funding.

Fiscal Impact:

Grant proceeds in the amount of $25,500.00 for the 2021 Urban and Community Forestry Grant, and the City’s required match funding in the amount of $25,500.00 will be made available in the FY 2022 Operating Budget for the completion of a Citywide Tree Inventory subject to the adoption of a companion budget amendment resolution.
