Staff Recommends: Presentation of Work Skills Scholarship Program
Explanation:
The City’s Work Skills Training Scholarships provide eligible low- and moderate- income (LMI) Hollywood residents the ability to acquire free training in Construction and Warehouse & Logistics. The Work Skills Scholarship Program, or “Putting Hollywood to Work”, completed its first round of courses that provided in-depth vocational training to prepare participants for entry-level positions in the selected career path. Two Saturday courses, Construction Operations and Warehouse & Logistics, were offered at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Community Center. Ten residents graduated from the Program.
The Work Skills Scholarship Program is a partnership between the City and OIC of South Florida to enable residents to gain new skills to assist in obtaining employment and apprenticeship opportunities. The goal of OIC is to assist individuals with becoming self-sufficient and productive members of society. Funding for the City’s Work Skills Scholarship Program is provided by an Interlocal Agreement (ILA) between Broward County, the City of Hollywood, and the City of Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency.
Fiscal Impact:
The presentation will not fiscally impact the City.
