Explanation:
The Department of Public Utilities ("Department") is responsible for operating and maintaining drainage infrastructure throughout the City to manage stormwater flows and minimize flooding. The east side of I-95 adjacent to where it crosses Johnson Street and the surrounding areas have experienced significant flooding. The City owns and maintains the drainage ditch located along the east side of I-95 north of Johnson Street, and within the Sunset Golf Course. The Florida Department of Transportation ("FDOT") owns and maintains the drainage ditch located along the east side of I-95 south of Johnson Street. The stormwater sheet flow from the FDOT section of this drainage area flows east, contributing to flooding in the neighborhood east of I-95 near Johnson Street.
The City approached the FDOT, and it was determined that this issue could best be addressed by installing storm culverts, junction boxes, straight concrete endwalls, drainage ditches, outfalls, and riprap along the east side of I-95 and Johnson Street. The cost estimate for these improvements, including the drainage ditch and culvert, is in the amount of $1,082,390.00. These improvements will serve jurisdictions of multiple entities including the FDOT, the City, and the North Central Neighborhood.
