Explanation:
The Department of Public Works desires to execute a second agreement for solid waste disposal support services for the period October 1, 2024, through July 2, 2028.
In June 2012, Broward County contracted Wheelabrator Environmental Systems Inc. for waste disposal services. An interlocal agreement was established.
On September 1, 2012, Broward County and various municipalities within the county entered an interlocal agreement for solid waste disposal support services, which was later amended by a first amendment, allowing each Participating Community to select Wheelabrator for waste disposal services; and now, the City of Hollywood will be included in the initial agreement.
Participation in the Interlocal Agreement requires the City of Hollywood to be responsible for the collection, transport, delivery and deposit of the following waste: Yard Waste, Bulk Trash, Construction and Demolition Debris, Municipal Solid Waste (“MSW”) and Recyclables at the following rates:
Residential MSW $56.15 per ton
Commercial MSW $101.15 per ton
Bulk/C&D $56.15 per ton
The City will manage the collection, transport, and disposal of various waste types, including residential and commercial municipal solid waste, yard waste, bulk trash, and construction debris.
This resolution facilitates the City of Hollywood's participation in a cooperative waste disposal program, ensuring efficient waste management services for the community while adhering to legal and financial guidelines.
Fiscal Impact:
A portion of the funding for the Interlocal Agreement is available in the FY 25 Operating Budget in account numbers 445.520102.53400.534980.000000.000.000 445.520101.53400.543610.000000.000.000 and 445.520101.53400.543600.000000.000.000 and will be budgeted in subsequent fiscal years’ operating budgets subject to approval and adoption by the City Commission.
