Explanation:
The City Commission passed and adopted Resolution No. R-2023-139, approving an Interlocal Agreement with Broward County for Solid Waste Disposal and Recyclable Materials Processing Authority of Broward County, Florida (ILA) in the amount up to $157,339.98, to develop and implement a long-term, environmentally sustainable, transparent, innovative, and economically efficient plan and approach to disposal, reduction, recycling, and reuse of waste generated in Broward County for 40 years with up to two possible 10-year extensions.
The ILA long-term development plan and fees were based on all the municipalities in Broward County agreeing to participate in the development of this plan. The original cost for the City of Hollywood was $157,339.98. However, after several municipalities did not agree to participate, the remaining municipalities, including the City of Hollywood, had to encumber the outstanding costs associated with the non-participating municipalities. The City of Hollywood’s new pro-rated contribution would be $188,646.09, an increase of $31,306.11.
The original amount of $157,339.98 has been paid for the plan development, and the outstanding amount to be paid by the City of Hollywood is $31,306.11.
The Director of Public Works recommends that the City Commission authorize the appropriate City officials to execute an amendment to the ILA agreement with Broward County to increase the ILA from $157,339.98 to $188,646.09.
