Explanation:
The Department of Public Utilities (Department) needs to purchase eight trailer-mounted generators to keep vital wastewater, water, and stormwater infrastructure operating throughout the City when there are power issues. These generators will provide emergency electricity for lift stations, the treatment plants, and other essential treatment systems during hurricanes, severe weather, and other emergencies. The generators ensure that the City can continue flow conveyance within all infrastructure safely and without interruption.
Having dependable backup power is critical. Without it, the City could face service outages, sewer overflows, environmental damage, violations of state and federal rules, and risk to public health and safety. Adding these generators strengthens the City’s ability to respond during emergencies, makes our infrastructure more resilient, reduces how often we must rent generators during storms, and helps crews quickly deploy equipment to affected areas as needed.
The eight trailer-mounted generators the Department plans to purchase were competitively bid through Sourcewell under RFP #020923 for portable construction equipment. JCB Miami, LLC d/b/a Gold Coast JCB (JCB) was awarded the contract, and the current contract runs from April 13, 2023, through April 20, 2027, with an option for a one-year extension. JCB has confirmed they will honor the same pricing and terms for the City under this contract.
Fiscal Impact:
Funding for this purchase order was included in the amended FY 2026 Operating Budget and Capital Improvement Plan and is available in account numbers 442.409901.53600.564530.00704.000.000, 442.400201.53600.564531.000000.000.000, 443.410101.53800.564531.000000.000.000, and 442.400604.53600.552280.000000.000.000.
