Body

Staff Recommends:  Approval of the attached Resolution.

Explanation:

The City’s Department of Public Utilities (“Department”) has the responsibility for planning, regulating, designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining a wastewater collection system including 85 sewer lift stations.

The Department desires to obtain professional engineering consulting services related to the design, permitting, and bidding of the Lift Station E-06 Rehabilitation Project.  On September 6, 2023, the City Commission passed and adopted Resolution No. R-2023-277, which authorized the execution of Continuing Services Agreements with eight firms for water, sewer, reuse, and stormwater infrastructure projects, one of the firms being Chen Moore and Associates (“CHEN”).

Department staff requested a proposal from CHEN for professional engineering support services for the referenced project.  CHEN submitted a proposal to provide the requested services in an amount up to $487,502.97.  Department staff evaluated the scope and fee of the proposal, and determined that the negotiated fee is fair, reasonable, and in accordance with industry standards.

This item seeks City Commission approval and authorization for the appropriate City officials to execute an Authorization to Proceed for Work Order Number CHN 25-02 with CHEN for professional engineering services related to the Lift Station E-06 Rehabilitation Project, in an amount up to $487,502.97, based upon the project scope, fees, terms, and conditions of the existing Continuing Services Agreement.

Fiscal Impact:

Funding for this project was included in the amended FY 2025 Capital Improvement Plan and is available in account number 442.409903.53600.563010.001368.000.000.  Department staff will manage this project.  No additional staff are needed as a result of this project.
