Explanation:

In its fiscal year (“FY”) 2022 budget process, the State of Florida, through the Department of Elder Affairs, appropriated funding in the amount of $228,000.00 to the City of Hollywood.  This FY of the State is for the period July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022.  This funding was approved by the State to be awarded to the City on a recurring annual basis, contingent upon the availability of such funds at the State level.  This funding is directed to the City through the State of Florida Department of Elder Affairs and administered through the Aging & Disability Resource Center of Broward County (“ADRC”).

The grant funds will be utilized to continue senior citizen recreation programs and services, including educational, cultural enrichment, field trips and tours, and will be offered through the Fred Lippman Multi-Purpose Center.

In order for the City to begin utilizing the grant funds for the second half of FY 2021 and first half of FY 2022, it is necessary for the City and ADRC to enter into certain agreements to set forth their mutual programming goals, standards and other criteria as established by the State.

The City’s FY 2021 Operating Budget was adopted and approved by the City Commission pursuant to Resolution R-2020-232 at the 2nd public budget hearing on September 24, 2020.  This Resolution seeks authorization to recognize and appropriate funding for the ADRC Elder Grant.

Fiscal Impact:

If approved, grant funding in the amount of $228,000.00 will be appropriated in the FY 2021 Operating Budget for the Areawide Council On Aging Grant as detailed in Exhibit 1.

Circumstances caused by the coronavirus may impact the availability of programming and could hinder the ability to draw down 100% of the grant award.
