Explanation:
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts (“PRCA”) has applied for and received grant funding from the Children's Services Council of Broward County ("CSC") Maximizing Out of School Time (“MOST”) Grant for the past 24 years.
The CSC MOST grant has enabled the City to provide youth After School and Summer Camp programs at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Kay Gaither, McNicol and Washington Park Community Centers. It helps to offset staff costs, tutorial services and departmental expenses, while enabling the City to offer safe, affordable, quality after school and summer camp programs that serve an estimated 375 youths.
PRCA desires to apply for the upcoming CSC MOST Grant in the approximate annual amount of $1,000,000.00 to continue to fund youth after school and summer camp programs for the upcoming school years and summers seasons.
The Director of PRCA recommends the City Commission authorize the appropriate City officials to apply for and if awarded, accept the CSC MOST grant funds for youth after school and summer camp programs.
Fiscal Impact:
If approved, grant funding in the amount of $1,000,000.00 will be appropriated in the FY 2026 Operating Budget for the CSC MOST grant as detailed in Exhibit 1.
Funding for the City’s required minimum 5% match will be provided in-kind utilizing existing full-time employee salaries.
