Explanation:

The City of Hollywood's Education Advisory Committee was created to help promote and support quality educational opportunities in the City and ensure the opportunities in Hollywood are among the best available in Florida. Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month, except for August and December, when the Committee is in recess.

 

Education Advisory Committee members must reside, work, or attend public school in Hollywood, and be known for their countywide interest in education. Further, persons of diverse perspectives shall be represented on the Education Advisory Committee, including parents of school-age or pre-school-age children, educators, business people, and persons with a background and knowledge in child development or education-related fields.

 

The Education Advisory Committee may consist of thirteen members: four Teacher Members, seven Regular Members, and two Student Alternate Members.

 

The current make-up of the Committee is as follows:

 

Teacher Members: John (Chris) Canter, Jeffrey Freeman who passed away, Allain McGuffie, and one vacant position due to the removal of Vincent Newman whose term is expiring June 30, 2025.

 

Regular Members: Dr. Mary Mites-Campbell, Jamil Richards, Valorie Weldon, and four vacant positions due to the removal of Candace Beeber, Mateo Watson, and one position that has been vacant since June 2024 whose terms are expiring June 30, 2025, and Susan Edwards whose terms are expiring June 30, 2026. 

 

Student Alternates: David Liebowitz and Brooke Manasse two Student Alternate positions available due to the term expire on June 30, 2025.

 

 

Fiscal Impact:

Approval of this resolution will not fiscally impact the City.
