Explanation:
The Public Utilities Department (“Department”) maintains and operates the City of Hollywood’s (“City”) Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants, which serve residents, businesses, and visitors. The Department plans, improves, maintains, operates, and repairs this system to protect public health and safety. To determine which upgrades and improvements are needed, the Department conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the current water and sewer systems.
The Department is responsible for maintaining safe, effective water and wastewater treatment systems that comply with federal, state, county, and local regulations. The City also serves as a regional utility, providing water and wastewater services to other municipalities. To fulfill these responsibilities as effectively and efficiently as possible, the Department has developed the Water and Wastewater Master Plans. These plans outline the improvements, expansions, and upgrades necessary for the City’s water and wastewater systems and provide a roadmap for future infrastructure needs.
The Water and Wastewater Master Plans will enable the City to develop and implement a comprehensive Capital Improvement Plan that includes projects, expansions, and upgrades necessary for the City’s water and wastewater systems. As the community grows and regulations evolve, long-term planning is essential to keep the system functioning well and to protect public health and the environment.
This agenda item seeks the City Commission’s approval to adopt the proposed Water and Wastewater Master Plans.
