Staff Recommends:  Approval of the attached Resolution.

Explanation:

Federal aid to supplement state and local hazard mitigation efforts, including the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (“HMGP”) is available at the state level and is being administered by the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

HMGP provides funding for technically feasible, cost-effective activities that reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from natural hazards and their effects.

In accordance with Florida Administrative Code R. 27P-22, Broward County has been designated as one of the Local Mitigation Strategy Working Group participating entities to coordinate mitigation activities within the County.

Broward County works with local stakeholders to identify, prioritize, and select eligible mitigation activities to be submitted for funding consideration under the HMGP.

The Department of Public Utilities desires to place generators at various Pump Stations/Lift Stations throughout the City to ensure that these facilities do not lose power.

These generators will aid in the health, welfare and safety of the residents of Hollywood and will provide power back-up supplies that will maintain sewer collections.

The placement of the generators is considered to be a hazard mitigation project that is eligible under the HMGP grant.

The Department of Public Utilities desires to apply for this grant in the approximate amount of $2,086,000.00.

The HMGP grant requires the City to commit up to a 32% match that the City’s grant request will be $668,250.00.
