Explanation:
Secured by Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the City was awarded a $500,000.00 FY 2024 Community Project Funding/ Congressionally Directed Spending Appropriation for the Coastal Resiliency Phase IV East-West (E/W) Streets Resiliency and Hardening Project. To receive the award, staff submitted a Community Project Funding grant application to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in February 2025 on behalf of the Community Redevelopment Agency (“CRA”). The funded improvements will mitigate flooding along the local street connectors and improve sunny day flooding by raising the east-west streets from Harrison Street to Magnolia Terrace, between State Road A1A and the Broadwalk. The project also involves harmonizing and creating safe access to and from State Road A1A.
The resiliency and flood management improvements are a part of the Phase IV E/W Undergrounding of Overhead Utilities and Streetscape Beautification capital improvement project included in the CRA’s Capital Improvement Plan, approved in September 2020.
Staff recommends ratification of the grant application in an aggregate amount of up to $500,000.00 and the retroactive acceptance and execution of the grant award by the appropriate City officials.
Fiscal Impact:
Approval of this resolution will not fiscally impact the City as this is a proposal to ratify the submittal to HUD for the Coastal Resiliency Phase IV East-West streets (Resiliency and Hardening) project. The grant does not require a cash match. The CRA will be responsible for operating and maintenance costs upon project completion.
