Staff Recommends: Approval of the attached Resolution.
Explanation:
The Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization (“MPO”) recently issued a call for regional transportation projects titled 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan. At this time the MPO is asking each respective municipality for a resolution stating support of the projects so the MPO can move forward on to the funding phase for feasibility studies and design.
County wide a total of 508 potential projects were identified through MPO’s Call for Projects and their internal Needs Assessment. The MPO evaluated and ranked the projects submitted by all the municipalities; the following four City of Hollywood projects were considered cost feasible to move into the next phase and have been included by the MPO into the draft Route 2050 MTP Cost Feasible Plan:
1. Johnson Street from University Drive to 56th Avenue Bike Lane/Sidewalk Project
2. Dixie Highway Complete Streets Project between Pembroke Road to Sheridan Street Bike
3. Pembroke Road from US1 to NE 14 Avenue Bike Lane/Sidewalk Project
4. Hollywood Boulevard Bridge and A1A Interchange Improvements Project
Dixie Highway is within jurisdiction boundary of Broward County and Hollywood Boulevard is within Florida Department of Transportation jurisdiction. Final review and approval will be required by the respective jurisdictions.
The draft Route to 2050 MTP Cost Feasible Plan was endorsed by the MPO on May 9, 2024, and the above projects are more specifically shown in the Exhibit “A”. A resolution from the City Commission stating support of the projects is required to move forward on to the funding phase for feasibility studies and design.
The 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan is still in the early stages; currently the MPO is not looking for any local funding for projects:
Complete Streets:
1. Rank 7 - Johnson Street from University to 56 Avenue, Funding Year 2031-2035
2. Rank 18 - Dixie from Pembroke to Sheridan, Funding Year 2041-2050
3. Rank 28 - Pembroke/Moffett Street from US1 to 14 Avenue, Funding Year 2041-2050
Roadway:
4. Hollywood Boulevard Bridge and A1A Interchange, Funding Year 2026-2030
Fiscal Impact:
Approval of this Resolution will not fiscally impact the City as this is a resolution supporting the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan.
