SECOND READING:
The ballot language was updated to comply with State Statute that the summary language not to exceed 75 words in length.
FIRST READING:
The Charter Review Committee was created for the purpose of conducting a comprehensive study of the City Charter. By a vote of two thirds, the Charter Review Committee may submit proposals to amend or revise the Charter to the City Commission.
The Charter Review Committee must submit to the City Commission any proposed amendments or revisions with associated ballot language no later than the first Tuesday in June. The City Commission shall place the Committee's proposals with the associated ballot language on the ballot.
This proposed Ordinance under Article 13 would remove under sale or lease of City property the language “or by a majority vote of the City electors voting on such proposal” and the remove the word “other” for disposition of property. It removed the language “beach or beachfront and added “east of the intracoastal” and added “or City owned and designated historic properties”.
New Section under Lease of City Property was added, the new language states “Notwithstanding the provisions of this section, any city-owned real property that is a park, a golf course or another recreational facility, a city-owned and designated historic property, or which is east of the Intracoastal which the city proposes to lease or otherwise encumber, inclusive of all options to renew, for 50 years or more must be approved by a majority vote of the city’s electors voting on such proposal.”
Fiscal Impact:
The proposed Charter amendments do not result in significant additional costs.
