Explanation:
The Department of Public Utilities (Department) maintains and operates the City’s 59.5 million gallons per day (MGD) Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The Department identified several assets at the WTP in need of maintenance, repair, or replacement, some of which are original and thus more than 50 years old. The projects identified by the Department as WTP Maintenance Package B include the following:
• Slakers 2 and 3 - Installation and Replacement of Lime Feed Pumps in Silo Nos. 2 and 3
• Filters 7 Through 18 - Surface Wash Feed Line Replacement
• Fluoride System Replacement
• Sodium Hexametaphosphate (SHMP) Feed System Replacement
• Membrane Softening/Reverse Osmosis Chemical Floor Recoating
• Mud Pump Discharge and Suction Line Reconfiguration
On August 30, 2023, the City Commission passed and adopted Resolution No. R-2023-251, which authorized the execution of continuing professional consulting engineering services contracts with five firms for water and wastewater treatment plant projects, one of the firms being Carollo Engineers, Inc. (Carollo).
The Department requested a proposal from Carollo to provide design, permitting, and bidding assistance related to the WTP Maintenance Package B projects. Carollo submitted a proposal to provide the aforementioned services in an amount up to $264,441.00.
This agenda item seeks the City Commission’s approval and authorization to execute the attached Authorization to Proceed for Work Order No. CEI 24-01 with Carollo Engineers, Inc., in an amount up to $264,441.00. The project is estimated to be completed within 30 weeks of the issuance of the Authorization to Proceed.
Fiscal Impact:
Funding for this project was included in the amended FY 2024 Capital Improvement Plan, and is available in account number 442.409904.53600.563013.001787.000.000
Department staff will manage this project. No additional staff are needed as a result of this project.
