Staff Recommends: Approval of Resolution
Explanation:
The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (Broward MPO) has funding available from Federal and State sources to promote their “Complete Streets” program. The City was recently awarded approximately $6,800,000.00 within the Broward MPO’s Transportation Improvement Program to fund a Complete Streets project on Hollywood Boulevard between City Hall Circle and Dixie Highway, and the Department of Public Works desires to move forward with the implementation of “Complete Streets” conceptual plans shown herein as Exhibit “A”.
The Department of Public Works exercised due diligence in community outreach through two open community presentations and individual outreach to building owners and/or business owners directly along the aforementioned segment of the corridor, and received positive support for the conceptual design. MPO’s funding is earmarked for the design and construction of all the hardscape elements to include the paving, grading, drainage, lighting, signalization, walkways, signage and pavement marking elements of the project.
Project elements that are not funded by the Broward MPO include landscaping, irrigation and site furnishings which are estimated at $600,000.00, and of which the City is expected to implement as part of its share in the Complete Streets Project. The Broward MPO requests a Resolution of support from the City in order for FDOT to begin work on the Construction Drawings.
