Explanation:
The City is responsible for continually assessing and ensuring the functionality of the wastewater collection system, including 85 lift stations and over 280 miles of sewer mains.
The Department of Public Utilities (“Department”) sanitary sewer pump stations are essential for the collection and transmission of wastewater. However, several pump stations have experienced Florida Power & Light power failures. The Department therefore wishes to proactively secure a source of backup power for this essential equipment to improve the City’s storm readiness and aid in the health, welfare, and safety of the residents of Hollywood.
Draft Consent Order Number 21-0392 was issued to the City by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Office of the General Council on September 6, 2024. The Department intends to purchase three 100 kW and three 175 kW portable power generators. These units can be rapidly deployed where needed in the event of a power failure, ensuring pumps remain operational. This will help reduce flooding and protect public safety. This is a priority for the Department following several recent weather incidents that caused power outages. These risks are particularly high during hurricane season when prolonged outages are common.
The selected vendor, Gold Coast JCB, is a certified Sourcewell cooperative contract holder. Utilizing Sourcewell Contract No. 020923-JCB allows the City to “Piggyback” on a competitively solicited contract.
This agenda item seeks the City Commission approval and authorization for the issuance of a Purchase Order to Gold Coast for six portable Generators to serve as emergency power sources at sanitary sewer stations in an amount up to $573,649.20.
Fiscal Impact:
Funding for this was included in the amended FY 2026 Capital Improvement Plan and is available in account number 442.409903.53600.563016.001945.000.000.
Department staff will manage this project. No additional staff are needed as a result of this resolution.
