Explanation:
One of the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization’s (MPO) six core products guiding the agency’s efforts is the “Route to 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan” (“MTP”). The MTP was approved by the MPO on December 12, 2024.
In September 2025, the MPO’s consultant completed the Broward Regional Comprehensive Safety Action Plan. As part of this plan, two corridors were identified as priority corridors with transportation safety needs. The MPO is seeking to amend the MTP to include these projects:
• Taft Street between North 70th Terrace and SR 7 (Corridor is within Hollywood)
• Stirling Road between I-95 and US-1 (the section from I-95 to Bryan Road on the south side, is within Hollywood)
Safety improvement projects have been identified for these corridors, as shown in the attached Exhibits “A” and “B.” A summary of the proposed improvements is provided below:
Taft Street, Exhibit “A”, North 70th Terrace to SR7:
A presentation was made by the Broward MPO and their consultant(s) at the February 5, 2025, City Commission meeting. Feedback from the Commission included the following: 1) Maintain the current two-lanes in each direction (no lane repurposing) road capacity to allow for future development. 2) Maintain the existing business district (Agenda item City of Hollywood - File #: P-2025-005 <https://hollywoodfl.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=7114909&GUID=88630B8A-5F85-4070-8373-65B2D98FC473&Options=&Search=&FullText=1> and video of presentation, item No. 26 City of Hollywood - Meeting of Regular City Commission Meeting on 2/5/2025 at 1:00 PM <https://hollywoodfl.legistar.com/MeetingDetail.aspx?ID=1244238&GUID=FB3B9BCB-B49F-4373-9BC3-EEA831FFA8A8&Options=info|&Search=>).
The current Taft Street plan shows:
• Reduced lane width while maintaining the current number of lanes
• Adding protected left-turn lanes
• Implementing speed limit reduction
• Pedestrian and bicycle facility improvements
• Roadway signage and pavement markings
Striling Road, Exhibit “B”, (I-95 to Bryan Road):
• Pedestrian improvements
• Raised intersection
• Roadway signage and pavement markings
To advance these projects and include them in the MTP, a resolution from the City Commission indicating support for the projects is required.
Fiscal Impact:
Approval of this resolution will not fiscally impact the City.
