Explanation:
The Department of Public Utilities Water Treatment Plant requires an agreement for the purchase of sodium chloride (solar salt) used as a part of the sodium hypochlorite generation system.
The system manufactures sodium hypochlorite on site, which is used in the disinfection process for the City of Hollywood's finished drinking water.
The City of Boca Raton, Florida, acting as the lead agency for the Southeast Florida Governmental Purchasing Cooperative, at its April 23, 2013 meeting, awarded its Bid Number 2013-038 for the purchase of sodium chloride (solar salt) to Morton Salt of Chicago, Illinois, for one (1) year with an option to renew for three (3) additional one (1) year periods.
In accordance with the bid, Morton Salt submitted a request for a price increase based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) adjustments.
On March 7, 2014, the City of Boca Raton, Florida renewed the contract with Morton Salt of Chicago, Illinois for the first one (1) year period for the supply of sodium chloride (solar salt), accepting the price increase.
The Director of Public Utilities and the Director of Procurement Services recommend that the City Commission approve the issuance of the attached Blanket Purchase Order for the purchase of sodium chloride (solar salt) to Morton Salt for an estimated annual amount of $100,728.00.
Section 38.46 of the City of Hollywood's Purchasing Ordinance provides that, the Director shall have the authority to join with other governmental entities in cooperative purchasing plans when the best interest of the City would be served.
The City of Hollywood has done business with Morton Salt in the past with satisfactory results.
Award is subject to the City's receipt and approval of all insurance certificates required by the City's Risk Manager.
Funding for the attached blanket purchase order has been provided for in the fiscal year 2014 budget in the Water Treatment Plant's Account Number 42.4011.00000.536.005233 and will be budgeted in subsequent fiscal years.
