Staff Recommends: Approval of the Attached Resolution

Explanation:

The existing Return Activated Sludge (RAS) Pump Station No. 1 was constructed in 1973 and is critical to the proper biological process at the Southern Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The electrical and mechanical equipment has reached the end of its useful life.

Severe cracking of the walls has provided a pathway for multiple leaks to penetrate the interior of the pump station.

The City requested a proposal from Hazen and Sawyer, P.C. to provide Professional Engineering Services for the design, permitting, and bidding services for the proposed RAS Pump Station No. 1 Rehabilitation.

Hazen and Sawyer, P.C. and the City of Hollywood have a Professional Services Agreement for General Engineering Consulting Services for Water Treatment Plant and Wastewater Treatment Plant projects, and this agreement was approved by the City Commission via Resolution No. R-2017-283 on September 20, 2017; and this agreement has a provision for insurance and indemnification that meets the City’s requirements and gives the City the right to terminate for convenience.

The Department of Utilities staff recommends that the City Commission issue an Authorization to Proceed for Work Order No. H&S 18-01 between Hazen and Sawyer P.C., and the City of Hollywood for Professional Engineering Services for the Return Activated Sludge (RAS) Pump Station No. 1 Rehabilitation project, located at the Southern Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant, in the lump sum amount of $74,466.00.

Funding was included in the in the FY 2018 Capital Improvements Program that was approved via Resolution R-2017-289.

Funding is available in account number 42.4000.85597.536.003121.
